Although frozen custard is synonymous with Wisconsin, the state’s ice cream is top-tier, too.
In celebration of National Ice Cream Day on July 20, Yelp released its list of the top 100 ice cream shops across the nation — and a Madison shop ranked 55th.
Yelp created its list by identifying businesses in the ice cream category on its site. Those ice cream shops were ranked using a number of factors, including the total volume and ratings of reviews, Yelp’s website said.

What to know about Ice Cream Social in Madison
When Ice Cream Social was started in 2020, it was a project on Instagram to raise money for community organizations, and its ice cream was sold weekly. In March 2022, Ice Cream Social opened a brick-and-mortar location at 2421 University Ave.
Ice Cream Social serves 100% gluten-free ice cream made from scratch with flavors like Hot Girl Summer, with honey sweetened cream, blueberry jalapeno jam and cornbread streusel; Harvest Moon (a take on Blue Moon); and Biscuits with the Boss (Earl Grey tea ice cream with shortbread pieces).
Its ice cream range from $4.25 for a mini-scoop to $12 for a four-scoop flight. Its menu also offers toppings and floats.

Ice Cream Social is open 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and 1 to 8 p.m. Sundays.
