A 3-year-old boy is in stable condition after he was accidentally shot in Mims on July 7, the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Deputies responded about 12:20 p.m. July 7 to a home in the 4000 block of Aurantia Road after an unidentified person called 911 to report the shooting, the sheriff’s office reported. Sheriff’s agents say the child was in the care of another adult at the time. A teenager was also in the home and attempting to move a firearm when the firearm discharged, with the round striking the boy, the sheriff’s office reported.

Paramedics treated the child at the scene and transported him to a nearby hospital. The boy, whose injuries were not specified by sheriff’s agents, was later airlifted to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando, which specializes in pediatric trauma and other injuries
Sheriff’s agents were working to piece together the circumstances behind the shooting. No arrests have been made.
The case is one of nearly at least dozen reported gunshot-related injuries — accidental and intentional — to take place in Brevard County since March, according to reports from Brevard County Fire Rescue and other agencies.
