After a clear and hot Fourth of July holiday weekend, the Lower Hudson Valley is in for a whole week of rain, with possible moderate flooding early in the week following torrential downpours.
The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather outlook for the Lower Hudson Valley on Monday, July 7, for risk of moderate flood conditions, as heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to hit the area.
NWS says Monday will begin with partly sunny skies and a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2 p.m. Then, a high likelihood of torrential downpour and thunderstorms from 2 p.m. until 11 p.m.
Rainfall amounts by the end of the day Monday may amount to between a tenth and a quarter-inch, with possible higher levels in localized areas. Temperatures during the day are expected to reach near 86 degrees.
Overnight, temperatures are expected to drop to around 72 degrees, with showers continuing through Tuesday morning.
Showers with a chance of heavy rainfall could continue Tuesday, with temperatures around 89 degrees. However, heat index values could measure around 98 degrees. A tenth to a quarter-inch of additional rainfall could accumulate during the day.
Heavy rain and thunderstorms are likely before 8 p.m. Tuesday, but the rain is expected to continue overnight into Wednesday morning. Temperatures Tuesday evening could drop to around 71 degrees.
By Wednesday afternoon, the chance of heavy torrential downpour is expected to be less according to the National Weather Service. However, a chance of showers throughout the day still remains. Wednesday skies are expected to be partly sunny with a high temperature of 86 degrees.
In the evening, another slight chance of showers and thunderstorms is likely, but skies will be mostly cloudy with temperatures near 69 degrees.
