Get to know the Virginia Cavaliers and Scott Stadium

After Florida State’s three-game home stretch in which they face (a likely ranked) Alabama, East Texas A&M (FCS), and Kent State, the Seminoles will travel to Charlottesville for a matchup against the Virginia Cavaliers. But what is worth knowing if you are visiting? What are the traditions up there? All this and more will be answered.

Scott Stadium had its first official game in 1931, making it the oldest active FBS stadium in the State of Virginia. The stadium offers views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, perhaps also making it arguably the most scenic stadium in the entire ACC.

A Rivalry Game?

I can’t think of a single person I know who would call this a rivalry. It’s not quite the UCF-UConn level of disinterest, but it’s certainly no FSU-UF. It’s called the Jefferson-Eppes trophy because Florida State University was founded by Francis Eppes, who is the grandson of Thomas Jefferson. Jefferson founded the University of Virginia. You learn something new every day.

What to See and Do

Per the r/CFB wiki, fans recommend Bodo’s Bagels for a pregame meal or a burger at The Virginian. Other good options are Marco & Luca’s, a highly-rated dumpling place. If you’re looking for something a bit more upscale after a hypothetical Cavaliers victory, fine dining can be found at The Downtown Mall.

It wouldn’t be college football without traditions. A cavalier rides his horse onto the field before kickoff. You’ll also see some fans wearing suits and ties.
