Akron police, along with the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force, have arrested three individuals accused of shooting and killing 15-year-old Javion Fort in Summit Lake on June 13, Lt. Michael Murphy stated in a news release.
The three individuals, 18-year-old Jaiden Trone and two juveniles, ages 14 and 15, were arrested at three separate locations the morning of July 2 and charged with aggravated murder.
“We’re extremely thankful for our ongoing partnership with the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force and their work in apprehending the individuals involved in this incident,” Akron Police Chief Brian Harding said in a statement. “These arrests highlight the amazing work that our Major Crimes Unit detectives do every day. We are thankful to have made arrests on this case and are hopeful that this helps to bring some closure to the family.”
Trone is being held at Summit County Jail, while the juvenile suspects are in custody at the Summit County Juvenile Detention Center.
What happened June 13?
Officers originally responded to a shooting call near the intersection of South Rhodes Avenue and Oberlin Court around 5:30 p.m., finding Javion suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was taken to Akron Children’s Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
At the time, Akron Mayor Shammas Malik wrote in the statement on Facebook, “Violence has no place in Akron and we will continue to work together with our officers and APD leadership, our young people, and our entire community as we aim to put a stop to gun violence in Akron.”
