The New Jersey-based processing company Gaiser’s European Style Provisions Inc. is recalling more than 140,000 pounds of ready-to-eat bologna due to product misbranding, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service.
Here’s what we know.
Which products are being recalled?
The following products produced between March 20 and June 20 are subject to the recall:
The recalled products bear the establishment number “EST. 5385” inside the USDA mark of inspection on the product labels.
Where were the recalled products distributed?
The recalled products were distributed to wholesale and retail locations nationwide.
Why is the lunch meat being recalled?
The FSIS was notified by the Office of Inspector General of a complaint received through the office’s hotline. The FSIS then investigated the complaint and determined that the products contained meat or poultry source materials not listed on the product labels.
There have not been any confirmed reports of adverse reactions caused by these products, and the FSIS does not expect any.
What to do if you believe you purchased recalled products
Consumers are urged not to consume the recalled products, and restaurants are urged not to serve them. They should immediately be discarded or returned to their place of purchase.
Consumers with questions about the recall can contact Gaiser’s Manager Steven Shuchinski at 908-686-3421 or gaisers@verizon.net.
Consumers with food safety questions can call the toll-free USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 888-MPHotline (888-674-6854) or send questions via email to MPHotline@usda.gov. Consumers who need to report a problem with a meat, poultry or egg product can use the online Electronic Consumer Complaint Monitoring System 24 hours a day at https://foodcomplaint.fsis.usda.gov/eCCF.
