Lubbock man dies after van, tractor-trailer crash in Lynn County

State investigators have identified a Lubbock man who died after a van crashed into a tractor-trailer Friday in Lynn County.

Around 12:56 p.m. Friday, officials arrived to the intersection of US 380 and FM 179 for a reported crash between a 2020 Chevrolet Express Van and a 2020 Freightliner Truck Tractor, according to a news release from the Texas Department of Public Safety. The initial investigation revealed the van had been going north on FM 179 toward the intersection.

The freightliner, which was towing a trailer, was on US 380. The van continued through the intersection and crashed into the freightliner, according to the release.

Jonathan Torres, the van’s driver, was pronounced dead at the scene from his injuries. He was 29 years old and from Lubbock. The freightliner’s driver was injured and taken to Lynn County Hospital District in Tahoka for minor injuries.
