Central Illinois is in a heat wave. Here are a few places in the world that are cooler

It’s safe to say that it finally feels like summer in central Illinois, with temperatures this week having reached highs in the mid 90s.

The hot, quiet streets and crowded beaches may prompt you to think about where in the world could be hotter. Or, maybe you want to get away to cool down.

Here are a few places that are currently cooler than Springfield.

Phoenix, Arizona

At the time of Monday morning, Springfield is feeling a balmy 83 degrees while the capital of the Copper State is 82 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Springfield is expected to see a high of 93 Monday while Phoenix is forecasted to see a high of 102.

Phoenix’s Heat Index, however, sits at 80 degrees, while Springfield claims a Heat Index of 90 degrees.

Death Valley, California

Death Valley is located in the Mojave Desert. A National Park also goes by the name of Death Valley, which is known for being the hottest, driest, and lowest in the U.S.

Furnace Creek, located within the park, was 78 degrees Monday morning with a Heat Index of 77. A high of 105 is expected for the day.

Death Valley holds the world’s hottest temperature reading at 134 degrees in 1913, though experts disagree about whether such a reading at that time was possible.

Bamako, Mali (Africa)

Close, but no cigar. Mali, as of 3 p.m. local time, reached 94 degrees with 49% humidity, according to The Weather Channel.

The country on the west side of the African continent is currently in its rainy season.

New Delhi, India

India’s capital city, starting to end its evening and go into night as of this writing, is feeling 88 degrees with 67% humidity, according to The Weather Channel, or what “feels like” 100 degrees.
