Hamilton County Municipal Court Judge Josh Berkowitz is a sore winner with an unacceptable bad temper for a judge (“Parikh’s power grab is costly for Hamilton Co. taxpayers,” June 20). The Ohio Supreme Court just gave Berkowitz a victory by accepting his argument over that of Hamilton County Clerk of Courts Pavan Parikh. I expected him to show class and judicial temperament in any public statement reacting to his win. In 2024, when he won in the lower appeals court, he was reported as saying, “It was a clear and strong decision.”
Not this year. Revealing an undignified absence of judicial temperament now, he unleashed publicly what the Courthouse News Service headlined, “Presiding judge slams Ohio court clerk in rare op-ed.” Whoa, not a ringing endorsement of a judge’s temperament and suitability for the bench.
Berkowitz has to run for reelection in November and appears to subscribe to the old saw, “there is no bad publicity.” He seems worried about holding his seat. The shrill, unjudicial way he is seeking attention is scary and should worry voters.
His opponent in the November election is Danielle Colliver, an experienced and respected courtroom attorney. She has an excellent reputation as one who knows the law, respects it, and has a superb temperament suited to being a judge we would be proud to have serving us in Hamilton County. It’s time for a “time-out” for unjudicial, unprofessional conduct by Josh Berkowitz. It’s time for voters to replace him with Danielle Colliver as our judge.
