The FSU Seminoles have been trying to flip four-star cornerback CJ Bronaugh from the Nebraska Cornhuskers for quite some time. It seemed like they had a chance to do so on Tuesday when he decommitted from them, but it wasn’t meant to be, as he committed to the Florida Gators on Friday
Bronaugh was one of FSU’s top cornerback targets in the 2026 recruiting cycle and someone defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr. and safeties coach Evan Cooper have both prioritized. He visited the Seminoles multiple times this year, including taking an official visit last weekend.
He is the No. 99 overall player and No. 12 cornerback in the 247Sports composite rankings. The Winter Garden product is also the No. 12 player from Florida.
He only played in eight games as a junior but produced at an extremely high level. He recorded 30 tackles, 2.0 sacks, six interceptions, three pick-sixes, four pass breakups, and one blocked field goal.
The good news for the Seminoles is that they are in the mix for several other talented cornerbacks. The group includes four-star prospect Chauncey Kennon, whom they are favored to land. They do not have a cornerback committed in their 2026 recruiting class, but they do have three safeties.
