El Paso High School girls soccer player Kylie Alvarez commits to play for UTEP

One of El Paso’s top high school girls soccer underclassman, El Paso High’s Kylie Alvarez has verbally committed to play for UTEP.

Alvarez will be a senior next season for El Paso High. Alvarez was a first team All-City selection by the El Paso Times this past season. She scored 21 goals and had 19 assists as a forward and midfielder.

Alvarez will join her good friend and 2025 El Paso High grad Lauren Varela at UTEP. Varela signed with UTEP last fall for the upcoming season.

“I was in contact with other schools and thought seriously about going away to play soccer, but being able to stay home and play in front of my family and having the chance to keep playing with Lauren Varela was very important to me,” Alvarez said. “I’m excited for the future. I’m looking forward to playing my senior (year) at El Paso High, getting better and then going to UTEP to help my hometown school get better.”

Alvarez is one of several talented El Paso women soccer players, who will be joining the UTEP program in the next couple of years, joining Varela, Kaitlynn Duntley, Chole Del Real and twin sisters Yesenia and Damaris Cisneros.

“It’s great to see so much talent here in El Paso have the opportunity to play at UTEP,” Alvarez said. “I believe the future looks bright for UTEP.”

Alvarez has earned her opportunity to play Division I soccer, El Paso High girls soccer coach Peter Fargo said.

“Kylie works so hard every day and it’s paid off,” Fargo said. “She’s versatile as a player and she will help UTEP a great deal.”
