'I just shot someone.' Shooting inside Shake Shack spurred by argument over parking

The fatal shooting at a Shake Shack in Clifton Heights earlier this month started as a “parking conflict” on the road between two people that escalated once they went inside, according to court and dispatch documents.

Police have arrested Antwoine McCants, 54, of North Avondale, and charged him with the killing of Christopher Stallworth, 41, inside the burger restaurant near the University of Cincinnati’s campus June 11.

McCants and Stallworth got into a verbal argument over parking outside the Shake Shack at 249 Calhoun St. around 8 p.m., according to court documents. The argument continued inside the restaurant when, at one point, police say McCants pulled a pistol on Stallworth.

Stallworth, unarmed, had both his hands in his pockets before McCants fired one shot to his chest, according to court documents and dispatch logs. Stallworth’s wife was there at the time of the shooting.

McCants immediately fled the scene on a motorcycle with another woman, dispatch logs show, but called 911 to turn himself in minutes later.

“I just shot someone,” McCants told a 911 dispatcher.

A University of Cincinnati officer detained McCants shortly thereafter.

Officers provided medical aid to Stallworth on the scene, applying a chest seal to his gunshot wound, but he died of his injuries after being brought to the UC Medical Center.

McCants is charged with murder and remains in custody at the Hamilton County Justice Center on a $1 million bond, according to court records. His next court date is set for June 23, when a grand jury report is expected.

Third shooting in CUF in 2025, data shows

CUF, an amalgamation of Clifton Heights, University Heights and Fairview, has had three reported shootings in 2025, according to city data. Last year, there were four shootings reported in CUF.

There have been 92 shootings reported so far citywide in 2025, according to data up to June 12. At this same time last year, there had been 128 shootings citywide.

In nearby Corryville, east of UC’s campus, a 15-year-old was arrested after a fatal shooting outside of a liquor store in April.
