FAMU men's basketball hires former FSU assistant Jarrod Lazarus as associate head coach

Charlie Ward is getting his inaugural Florida A&M men’s basketball coaching staff in place.

Lazarus’ other career stops include assistant roles at Middle Tennessee State and South Florida.

“Jarrod Lazarus is the perfect addition as associate head coach at Florida A&M,” Ward said in a press release. “His leadership, passion for the game, and dedication to developing young talent will elevate the program.”

A Weston native, Lazarus graduated from FSU in 2009 with a Bachelors in Business Management. In 2016, he earned his Masters in Business Administration from MTSU.

In coaching, Lazarus has been a part of five NCAA Tournaments and four regular season conference titles, according to FAMU sports information.

Lazarus was on the FSU men’s basketball staff when it won the program’s first Atlantic Coast Conference regular season championship in 2020. Moreover, Lazarus coached FSU’s recent NBA lottery draft picks, such as Patrick Williams (Chicago Bulls), Devin Vassell (San Antonio Spurs), and Scottie Barnes (Toronto Raptors).

“I’m thrilled to join Florida A&M men’s basketball and be part of such a historic program,” Lazarus said.

“I would like to thank head coach Charlie Ward for this amazing opportunity. I look forward to working with the team, embracing the culture, and helping take this program to new heights.”
