The Newark Catholic baseball team is playing for a state championship Saturday afternoon.
NC plays Minster at 1:20 p.m. at Canal Park in Akron. Follow below for updates on the Green Wave’s pursuit.
Minster 8, Newark Catholic 0, Final
Minster left a runner at third base in the first against NC’s Max Moore. Green Wave go 1-2-3 in their half.
Walks and two errors have Minster on top and still threatening. Three errors put NC in a hole.
Hal Gillespie hit helps NC load the bases but Green Wave fail to score.
Mikey Hess gets Minster 1-2-3 in the third. Miller Hutchison singles for NC to give the Green Wave two runners on, but a caught stealing short-circuits the third.
Chris Garber makes a running catch in right field to keep Minster off the board. Good defensive plays by Minster cause NC to go 1-2–3 in the bottom of the fourth.
Minster adds to its lead in the top of the fifth. Mikey Hess singles and steals second base, but the Green Wave fail to score.
Minster scores a run in the top of the sixth. Two-out singles for Owen Przymierski and Hal Gillespie give Green Wave a chance, but they go scoreless in the sixth.
Green Wave go quietly in the seventh.
