The Jacksonville Jaguars are close to dismissing for the summer after wrapping up the first day of Mandatory Minicamp on June 10.
Rookie Travis Hunter saw his first action on defense during a media open practice, donning the white jersey and practicing under defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile.
Hunter has practiced with the defense in previous workouts this offseason and has participated in meetings, but this is the first time he’s been on defense while media attended a practice.
“I think both physically and mentally, there’s been some growth. I saw some muscles coming out of his arms,” head coach Liam Coen jokingly said of Hunter. “He’s done a great job.”
The Jaguars posted an athletic interception Hunter made during a previous practice, showing off his ball skills and “natural ability” as Coen put it.
While he didn’t have any plays like that during the first mandatory minicamp practice, he still showed his progression.
“I’d have to go back and watch the tape to see how he actually performed,” Coen said. “But as you know, as a defensive back, usually if they’re not calling your name it’s typically a good thing.”
The Jaguars will have two more mandatory minicamp practices prior to dismissing players for the summer on June 12. They’ll return for the start of training camp at the end of July.
