Fuji San in Vestal closed. What's next for the business

Fuji San Japanese restaurant on the Vestal Parkway closed May 12, with plans to relocate in the near future.

According to a sign posted on the building on May 3, Fuji San, located within the Quality Inn and Suites, closed due to “urban development plans” beyond the restaurant’s control.

The restaurant closure comes as the Quality Inn and Suites is closed to be transformed into a 257,000-square-foot apartment building. The anticipated $69 million project is scheduled to begin in June and ultimately feature 197 units and amenities along with a parking area and commercial space. Construction is expected to last until 2027.

However, Fuji San is actively seeking a new location in the hope of reopening the restaurant soon.

Though a banner message posted on Fuji San’s website indicates the restaurant will be temporarily closed May 12-May 27, manager Joy Xiao said they have yet to find a new location and do not know when the restaurant will be reopening.

“We extend our deepest gratitude for your support over the past 23 years,” the sign states. “It’s been an honor to be part of your dining memories. Goodbye for now — but not forever.”

Updates regarding the relocation and reopening date will be posted to the restaurant’s Facebook page.
