No. 1 Texas A&M softball finally gets to take the field in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals Thursday night to play South Carolina. The Gamecocks beat the Alabama Crimson Tide on Wednesday to earn the shot to play the Aggies.
The Aggies (43-9, 16-7) secured the No. 2 seed in the tournament after winning their regular season finale series against Tennessee 2-1. The win also helped make A&M the No. 1 team in the national polls.
In 11 years in the SEC, Texas A&M has yet to win a conference tournament, but this year, they may have the team to do it and make the College Softball World Series for the first time since 2017. Led by ace senior left-hander Emiley Kennedy (19-4, 2.57 ERA) and a batting order that is heating up at the right time, the Aggies look poised to make a long run in the postseason.
A&M won the Big 12 Tournament once in 2008, and its best finish in the SEC Tournament was losing to Florida 7-3 in the semifinal round last year.
The winner of the quarterfinal game will play the winner of Texas and Florida/ Ole Miss on Friday.
