Elite RB 'impressed' with FSU after first visit

FSU has been hosting recruits left and right as of late. On Tuesday, four-star running back, Carsyn Baker made his way to Tallahassee for the first time as he began a multi-day trip to see the program.

Not only did Baker get to take in some practice time, but he was able to rub shoulders with the coaching staff. The first impression the Florida State left on Baker couldn’t have been any better.

“Coach YAC and coach Norvell, they both came by and offered me at the school,” Baker told Noles247. “We just have been building this relationship. I’m just now getting on campus and I loved it for the first time. I’ve been very impressed with Florida State.”

Seminoles head coach Mike Norvell has built a reputation for having tremendous energy. Baker got to see that from him and the entire staff during his visit.

“The energy that the coaching staff had with coach [Mike] Norvell,” said Baker. “He’s a very energized coach. The things I learned today were from coach YAC [David Johnson] inside the meeting room. He made me feel like part of the room already. Great vibe and great energy with him. It’s just like the great coach he is.”

One of the key additions to the Florida State program during the offseason has been offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn. Throughout his coaching career he has made running the football and emphasis, which has been proven by the seven years he’s had 3,000-yard rushing attacks and the 16 1,000-yard rushers he’s guided.

Baker established a relationship with Malzahn while he was still part of UCF’s staff. He was able to see how his offense operated during practice, and much to his delight, he was immensely intrigued.

“I had a meeting with coach Gus. The backs he produced over the last couple years, he likes to run the football. With him being at Florida State looking for them to run the ball a lot, I could definitely see myself in the type of offense they run.”

Baker has an official visit with the Seminoles scheduled for June 6. He currently has Florida State in his top four schools along with Ohio State, Clemson, and Texas A&M.

247Sports composite rankings have Baker as the No. 175 overall prospect and the nation’s No. 14 running back. They also have the 6-foot-1, 195-pounder as the No. 23 recruit in Georgia.
