Amy Nelson grew up in Port Huron and graduated from Port Huron Northern in 1996 becoming a breakout star in track and cross country. She realized her passion for running in sixth grade field day when she outran almost all the other students. Amy is married to Ken Nelson, who was also a Port Huron Northern track star and he was inducted into the Port Huron Sports Hall of Fame in 2017.

After high school, Amy ran track at Wheaton College and studied to become an Athletic Trainer. She explains the education and hard work required to become a certified athletic trainer.
