A 52-year-old man died from injuries he suffered in a July 15 motorcycle crash at the Zoo Interchange that also critically injured his passenger, according to a Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office report.
Michael J. Peterson, of Lomira, died July 17 at Froedtert Hospital, two days after the crash. The medical examiner’s office listed his cause of death as an accident.
What happened in the Zoo Interchange motorcycle crash?
At about 7 p.m. July 15, Peterson was driving a motorcycle with a passenger when he lost control while traveling through the Zoo Interchange. The exact circumstances that caused him to lose control remain unknown.
The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office reviewed video of the crash and told the medical examiner’s office that Peterson and his passenger struck a wall, were thrown from the motorcycle and slid several feet. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
Peterson and his passenger, a woman, were transported to Froedtert Hospital with traumatic injuries following the incident. Peterson suffered multiple injuries, including skull and rib fractures, pulmonary contusions, internal bleeding and a subdural hematoma.
He underwent surgery and was admitted to the hospital’s surgical intensive care unit. He was pronounced brain dead July 17. Peterson’s family consented to organ donation, and his heart, lungs, liver and kidneys were donated, according to the ME’s report.
