The WIAA boys soccer state tournament began Thursday, Nov. 6, at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee with semifinals in Divisions 1 and 4.

Sturgeon Bay headed to Division 4 championship game
Sturgeon Bay has advanced to the D4 title game with a 3-2 overtime victory over Arcadia.
The Clippers will play Oostburg in the title game at 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 8.
Sturgeon Bay improves to 21-3-2. Arcadia finishes the season with a 20-3-4 record.
Flying Dutchmen await championship game opponent
Oostburg will be playing in the state championship game for the first time since 2021.
The Flying Dutchmen will play second-seeded Sturgeon Bay (20-3-2) or third-seeded Arcadia (20-2-4) in the championship game Nov. 8 at 1:30 p.m.
Oostburg advances to Division 4 state title game
Oostburg has defeated Madison Country Day tri-op 2-1 in the first Division 4 semifinal game.
Parker Meerdink and Cade Dirkse scored goals for Oostburg in the victory.
Madison Country Day cuts into deficit with goal
Isaias Hernandez-Castrova has scored for Madison Country Day on a free kick in the 46th minute to pull the Prairie Hawks within a goal of the Flying Dutchmen at 2-1.
Oostburg takes early lead over Madison Country Day
Top-seeded Oostburg leads fourth-seeded Madison Country Day tri-op 2-0 in the first Division 4 semifinal game.
Oostburg came in with an 18-1-1 record, while Madison Country Day is 11-6.
Marquette advances after 4-2 win on penalty kicks
Marquette advances to the WIAA Division 1 state final against Madison West with a 4-2 win on penalty kicks after playing to a 3-3 tie in regulation and overtime against Hudson. The Hilltoppers got conversions from Charlie Anguil, Liam Mayo, Ivan Hooshmand and the clincher from Tariq Kahn. Hudson got a first round conversion from Jack Poole and a third round conversion from Will Cook to draw even, but were thwarted on their fourth attempt. Marquette will play for its WIAA-leading 17th state title on Saturday.
Second OT expires: PK’s to decide Marquette-Hudson D1 semifinal
With no additional scores after Marquette’s go-ahead and Hudson’s equalizer in a back-and-forth second overtime, we will head to penalty kicks to decide the latter Division 1 state boys soccer semifinal. Both teams played to a 3-3 tie in 100 minutes of regulation and overtime.
Hudson PK chance in 95′ ties us back at 3
A Hilltoppers foul in the box sets up a penalty kick chance for Hudson junior Calvin Lessard, who converts with a strike to the upper right corner to re-tie us at 3 in the latter overtime in the 95th.
Second OT: Kahn scores first goal of the season with long goal
The Hilltoppers are in front with the 3-2 lead after an upper shelf goal from nearly 40 feet out by senior Tariq Kahn, his first of the season in the 94th minute. Marquette has the lead over Hudson with under six minutes to play in the latter overtime period.
Halfway through overtime, Marquette and Hudson remain tied
After the first of two 10-minute overtimes, we remain tied at 2-2. The Hilltoppers of Marquette controlled possession for much of the period with our light wind tonight at their backs attacking the North goal. We flip sides for the latter 10 minutes, our last opportunity to break this tie before we head to penalty kicks to decide this Division 1 state semifinal.
Second D1 semifinal headed to overtime
We are headed to overtime between Marquette and Hudson, tied at 2 after 80 minutes of regulation. A reminder on WIAA overtime rules: We will play two 10-minute overtime periods with no “Golden goal” scenario at play. Both periods will be played in full. We got to this point with goals scored for Marquette by Charlie Anguil and Gus Garcia-Velez, and Diego Vega and Jack Poole for Hudson.
Marquette has a pair of near misses in 67′, 69′
The Hilltoppers have had a pair of potential go-ahead goals narrowly miss in the past few minutes, starting with a Jacob Clark shot that was deflected off the right post in the 67th minute. Two minutes later in the 69th, Liam Mayo had a chance in front of the goal but clanked it off the crossbar. Marquette heavy on the attack as they hunt for a go-ahead score in the final 10 minutes of regulation, tied at 2 with Hudson.
Handball awards game-tying PK chance for Hudson
We have a brand new ballgame here in the 56th minute, as a handball by Marquette awarded Hudson a penalty kick that senior Jack Poole converted with a low strike into the left corner for the equalizer. Hudson had a chance on a breakaway shortly thereafter as sophomore Will Cook jockeyed for position with a Marquette defender, but his shot tickled wide left. Marquette also just had a scoring chance in a scrum as Eli Cocker hit the post while looking for the go-ahead. We are tied at 2 entering the late stages of this Division 1 state semifinal between Marquette and Hudson.
HALFTIME: Marquette 2 Hudson 1
After 40 minutes, the Hilltoppers are leading in their quest to return to championship Saturday for the first time since 2022, 2-1 over Hudson. The goals have come from Charlie Anguil off an assist from Liam Mayo in the 26th minute and Gus Garcia-Velez off an assist from Ben Bausch in the 30th minute. Hudson drew back within a goal off of Diego Vega’s first goal of the season in the 35th minute with Sam Olson picking up the assist. Marquette attacks the North end goal in the second half, which has had the wind for most of the day so far.
Hudson back within one after goal from Vega scores first
The Raiders are on the board in the 35th minute as junior midfielder Sam Olson (8) found junior Diego Vega (1) in the middle of a crowd in front of the goal for Hudson’s first goal of this Division 1 semifinal. Marquette still holds a 2-1 lead as we close in on halftime.
Marquette lead to 2-0 after sophomore’s fourth of the year
The Hilltoppers are now out to a 2-0 advantage in the 30th minute as sophomore Gus Garcia-Velez (4) found the net off an assist from senior Ben Bausch (4).
Marquette first on the board with 26th minute tally
Marquette is on the board first here in the 26th, as junior Liam Mayo (3) found Charlie Anguil (4) right to left on a pass in front of the goal to set up a strike for the opening tally. Marquette has had a couple misses wide left and wide right so far today from senior Ivan Hooshmand, but finds the back of the net here to take the lead. Hudson’s best chance came on strike by senior Teddy Anderson that hit high off the crossbar and missed.
Kickoff for Marquette-Hudson set for 1:35 p.m.
Our latter Division 1 state semifinal is set to kick off at around 1:35 p.m. between No. 2 seed Marquette (11-5-3) and No. 3 seed Hudson (20-0-2). Marquette is making its WIAA-leading 24th appearance at state, all of which have come in the last 26 seasons. Hudson is making its 13th appearance at state, and first since 2022.
FINAL: Madison West 2 Brookfield East 1
The No. 4 Madison West Regents have upset the No. 1 Brookfield East Spartans, 2-1, to advance to the Division 1 state final at 11 a.m. on Nov. 8. Liam Cahill scored the first Regents goal in the sixth minute, with Louis Rowe scoring the go-ahead and eventual game-winner in the 69th minute. Brookfield East is one-and-done for the second-consecutive season at state.
Our second semifinal in Division 1 to determine who will face Madison West will begin at around 1:30 p.m. between Marquette and Hudson.
Offside disallows potential equalizer for Brookfield East
A potential Emre Evran equalizer was disallowed in the 78th minute by an offsides against Brookfield East. Madison West still holds a 2-1 lead with two minutes left for East to tie.
Madison West back in front in 69th minute
The Regents have retaken the 2-1 lead in the 69th minute, as junior Louis Rowe (25) finished a ball right in front of the net that had bounced passed keeper Will Slawinski. Brookfield East had a good chance on a breakaway the other way shortly after, but the shot was saved by Regents keeper Sebastian Covarrubias. Time running short for the Spartans as they trail here in the final 10 minutes of regulation.
Brookfield East draws even on Evran goal
With the wind in their favor for the second half as they attack the North goal, Brookfield East has drawn even on an Emre Evran (15) goal in the 54th minute. The goal was assisted by Blake Schmitt (8) on a play that started with an Owen Counsell corner kick. We are knotted up at 1 between the Spartans and Madison West.
HALFTIME: Madison West 1 Brookfield East 0
After a first half where possession and corner kicks were largely dominated by Madison West, the Regents hold a 1-0 lead over Brookfield East in the first Division 1 semifinal after the first 40 minutes on Liam Cahill’s sixth minute goal. West has not won a game at the WIAA state tournament in five prior appearances since 1999.
Madison West strikes first in 6′
The Regents of Madison West are first on the board here in the sixth minute, as a shot by senior Owen Purtell in front of the goal was deflected by the Brookfield East goaltender Will Slawinski before senior midfielder Liam Cahill (13) finished it with a right-to-left strike from just in front of the goal. The goal was unassisted. 1-0 Madison West over Brookfield East.
Brookfield East and Madison West kick off WIAA state boys soccer with first semifinal
The WIAA boys state soccer tournament is underway, as No. 1 seeded Brookfield East (15-0-4) faces No. 4 seed Madison West (15-1-1) in the first of two Division 1 state semifinals today. The winner will face the winner of our second state semifinal between No. 2 seed Marquette and No. 3 seed Hudson, coming up at 1:30 p.m. later today.
Brookfield East is making its 21st appearance at the state tournament and third consecutive. Madison West is making its 16th program appearance and first since 2017.
