When does the 2025-26 school year start for Milwaukee Public Schools, suburban districts?

It may only be July, but to some students and parents, it feels like school is right around the corner.

From Milwaukee to the metro area, here’s what to know about the return to the classroom this fall.

When does the 2025-26 school year begin for MPS?

All Milwaukee Public School students return to class on Tuesday, Sept. 2.

Some MPS staff will arrive as early as Organization Day on Aug. 25 or Professional Development Days, Aug. 26-28, with a break Aug. 29−Sept. 1 for Labor Day.

This year’s singular schedule follows last year’s shift from two calendars to a districtwide calendar that includes high schools, International Baccalaureate and year-round schools. The School Board voted in December 2023 to adopt the single calendar after receiving feedback from families, staff and students that supported the change.
