What's AJ Dillon's ideal day in Door County? The ex-Packer packs in lots of spots

AJ and Gabrielle Dillon couldn’t stay away from their favorite place for too long …

Despite AJ, the former Green Bay Packers running back, signing with the Philadelphia Eagles in March, the beloved Wisconsin sports family returned to Door County for the Fourth of July.

AJ and his brother-in-law, Will Toonen, even did their podcast, “Toonen to Dillon,” from a boat up there — then had to head inside when their laptop overheated.

They dished about The Door, including dealing with “FIBs” on the drive up, AJ’s ideal day in DoCo and past July 4 shenanigans involving a boat trip to Chambers Island and overly competitive beach volleyball.

AJ took fans on a quick trip down memory lane. With so much closed during the COVID-19 pandemic when AJ and Gabrielle met, they ventured up to Door County, where her parents have a cottage. It was at that cottage that the couple would end up getting engaged, and later, married. And now, they get to share that special place with their 2-year-old son, Algiers “Trey” Dillon III.

“It’s all the good stuff,” AJ told listeners. “It’s family, nostalgia. Everything you want to know.”

Here’s what AJ had to say about Door County on the pod, what else the Dillons have been up to up there and more:

What is AJ Dillon’s ideal day in Door County?

On the podcast, AJ said he’d start the day off at Egg Harbor’s Big Easy for beignets and the Louisiana Skillet, which is made with Cajun herb-roasted potatoes, andouille sausage, peperonata, bacon, cheddar, scrambled eggs and green onion.

If it’s a day AJ has “no responsibility” and can “let the belly out,” he’d walk across the street to One Barrel Brewing Co. to relax over a couple of casual beers and listen to music.

He’d get some steps in by going to several nearby shops, including Wish.

Then, he’d stop into The Cherry Hut in Fish Creek for one more drink and indoor basketball.

Around 2 p.m., it would be time for Hill Street, also in Fish Creek, for a Fluffernutter sandwich, which features fried Eggo waffles, peanut butter and marshmallow fluff.

“Ideal Door County day, you are pigging out,” Toonen said. “Calories don’t count up here.”

On to Sister Bay’s Stabbur Beer Garden by Al Johnson’s for shade and drinks, then off to dinner at Boathouse on the Bay.

Post-dinner, AJ is pulling up to The Garage at Husby’s Food & Spirits for live music and libations.

Then, he’ll see where the night takes him. That could be karaoke at Casey’s BBQ & Smokehouse in Egg Harbor and/or AC Tap in Baileys Harbor, which AJ said has “the best garlic parm wings in the entire world.”

AJ would later realize he forgot to include — drum roll, please — White Gull Inn. So, squeeze that in there somewhere, too.

What else have AJ, Gabrielle and Trey Dillon been up to in Door County?

Gabrielle — a lifestyle blogger and content creator — has been sharing snippets from the family’s Door County trip on social media.

She posted a photo dump from it on Instagram with pictures at PC Junction, Horseshoe Bay Farms, Inc., outside June Landing, Door County Confectionary and Little Rad House, boating and more.

“feeling so grateful for this time with family,” Gabrielle captioned the post, in part. “Nothing beats summer in door county with your favorite people “
