The calendar has flipped to March and there likely won’t be much true madness for the middle and lower teams in the Big East Conference standings.
But even though an at-large NCAA tournament bid is out of reach for at least seven of the conference’s 11 teams, they’re still playing for seeding placement in the Big East tournament.
With three games left, longtime rivals Marquette and DePaul have a chance to move up the standings when they meet Sunday, March 1 at Fiserv Forum.
The Golden Eagles (10-18 overall, 5-12 in the Big East) are second-last in the league. With games remaining at Providence and vs. No. 5 UConn, Marquette’s best chance at a victory is against the Blue Demons (15-13, 7-10). Despite struggling most of the season, the Golden Eagles have won three of their last four home games.

Trying to win a second game against MU this season, DePaul has been one of the few surprise teams in the conference. The Blue Demons can still secure a first-round bye in the tournament, given to the top five teams. They’ve never been seeded higher than seventh in previous tournaments.
It’s also a big game for Marquette because all-time leading scorer Markus Howard will have his No. 0 retired at halftime.
