Scoring three fewer runs than their opponents despite being virtually tied for first, the Cleveland Guardians are catching a break this week when they visit American Family Field by not having to face Milwaukee Brewers ace Jacob Misiorowski and fellow all-star candidate Kyle Harrison.
However, it likely will remain a challenge for the Guardians’ offense to muster any consistency after their lineup was dealt a severe blow June 13.
Third baseman Jose Ramirez, easily the team’s top overall player, suffered a broken hamate bone in the team’s victory over Detroit and will be out for at least five weeks. Rookie Chase DeLauter, who had been hitting in the No 3 spot, injured his rib cage in the same game.
Meanwhile, after defeating Christopher Sanchez and the Phillies, 4-0, on Sunday, June 14, the Brewers are second in the majors with a plus-112 run differential. Due to a rainout last weekend, the Brewers will end up facing Cleveland’s top two pitchers, Gavin Williams and Parker Messick, in the series.
In his last seven games, Jackson Chourio is hitting .457 with five home runs and 10 RBI. The Brewers have averaged 7.8 runs a game in June while the Guardians have averaged just 3.6.
