Vote for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Piggly Wiggly athlete of the week for Aug. 18-23

Tanner Effertz, Whitnall football

Whitnall got off to a flying start in Week 1 with a 56-20 victory over Milwaukee Academy of Science in its season opener Aug. 22. Falcons quarterback Tanner Effertz was nearly perfect in a 49-point first half for Whitnall, going 14-of-19 for 294 yards and four touchdowns through the air in the victory. He also ran six times for 36 yards and a pair of scores on the ground.

Payton Haugen, Brookfield East girls golf

The senior shot a medalist score of 136 (69-67) across the two-day Brookfield Central/Menomonee Falls Invitational to lead a runner-up team finish in an event with more than 25 teams Aug. 18-19.

Jacob Osmanski, Sussex Hamilton football

The senior Osmanski accounted for 316 total yards of offense and five touchdowns, including two on the ground in a 42-21 victory over Kimberly in Week 1. Osmanski completed passes to five different receivers, including Alex Restivo, who caught four for 157 yards and a score.

Alex Seraphine, Oconomowoc football

Seraphine dominated Pulaski on the ground in Oconomowoc’s season-opening victory. The senior carried the ball 23 times for 188 of Oconomowoc’s 256 rushing yards and four touchdowns in a 38-14 victory for the Raccoons.

Dominick Walters, Franklin football

Walters did a little bit of everything for Franklin in its 23-20 victory over Catholic Memorial in Week 1. The South Dakota State recruit lined up for some offensive snaps, returned a punt 60 yards for a touchdown, tallied five tackles and an interception on defense, and punted seven times with an average of just under 39 yards per kick.
