Brookfield girls lacrosse co-op
The Brookfield girls lacrosse co-op has been not only one of the top teams in the Milwaukee area this season, it has been one of the best teams across the state. The co-op finished the month of May on a five-match winning streak, going 6-1-0 overall with the lone defeat coming in a 16-15 thriller against the Kenosha co-op on May 6. Brookfield has been led by one of the state’s best players in Tess Lee, who tallied four double-digit point performances in seven matches, including five goals and nine assists in a 14-point performance during a 25-2 rout of Oak Creek on May 19. Six players tallied 25-plus goals during the regular season for Brookfield, led by Lee’s 70 goals. In the opening round of the postseason, Brookfield defeated Oak Creek again, 23-2, with a trio of players tallying seven points each, led by Chloe Georg’s six goals with five ground balls.
Germantown baseball
For the second straight month, Germantown baseball finds itself as a team of the month nominee. Why? Because the Warhawks completed a perfect regular season at 26-0 heading into the WIAA baseball postseason, including a flawless 15-0 in May to win the Greater Metro Conference title. It has been an impressive performance at the plate with six hitters tallying at least 18 hits this season, but the youth movement on the mound has really sparked the Warhawks as they look to conclude a perfect season in the playoffs. Five pitchers have made at least six appearances this season. Four of them are sophomores, led by Brady Lauer’s 33 innings pitched. Lauer has been a true innings eater for Germantown, going at least six innings in three of his four pitching appearances during May, striking out 13 hitters. The offense was excellent, scoring six runs or more in 10 of the 15 victories in May.
Marquette boys golf
Don’t look now, but the defending WIAA Division 1 state team boys golf champions might be getting hot at the right time. The reigning champion Hilltoppers have flown into the final couple weeks of the golf season on the highest of highs. Marquette shot matching scores of 287 at the Greater Metro Conference meet to win the title and then shot a 287 to capture the regional crown and advance to the Waukesha South Sectional at Nagawaukee Golf Course on June 3. Freshman Connelly Doerr was the individual medalist at the regional with a 2-under 69 at Whitnall Park Golf Course. The Hilltoppers took the top four spots on the leaderboard as junior Hayes Packee and sophomore Luke Prunty each shot 71, while sophomore Christian Arean tied for fourth place with his score of 76.
Pewaukee baseball
Germantown wasn’t the only area program to have a perfect month of May. The co-Woodland West champion Pewaukee Pirates had themselves a flawless May, going 13-0 to cement a strong 24-2 regular season heading into the playoffs. The Pirates offense was stellar in May, scoring 10-plus runs in eight of the 13 victories, while scoring nine in a pair of victories over Catholic Memorial and Greendale. The current win streak has reached 21 straight games for the Pirates, who opened postseason play June 2 with a 2-1 regional win against Campbellsport. Pewaukee hasn’t been to state since back-to-back appearances in the Division 2 state tournament in 2021 and 2022, but if this current win streak is any indication of what lies ahead, the Pirates could be a real contender to win the whole thing.
Racine Park girls soccer
It has been a challenge for Racine Park with a shortage of bodies, but the Panthers have powered through to cap an excellent season. Park went 8-1 in May to finish the regular season 15-2-1 and win the Southeast Conference. They’ll be the No. 4 seed in Sectional 3 of the WIAA Division 2 playoffs and could be a dangerous team moving throughout the tournament. Outside of a 1-0 defeat to Divsion 4 perennial power The Prairie School on May 8, the Panthers haven’t lost since April 24 (Union Grove).
