The 47th annual Two Rivers Fish Derby is in the books after anglers hauled in 774 fish weighing a combined 6,233.5 pounds during the July 17-19 tournament at Walsh Field in Two Rivers.
The derby drew 297 anglers over two-and-a-half days.
Seventeen boats competed Saturday in the Super K division. “Back in Action” took first place with 83.2 pounds. Crew members were Ben Kelly, Allison VanOudenhoven, John Kulpa Jr., Tim Metz and Rick Schoenherr.
“Grandpa VI” placed second with 78.1 pounds, and “She Said No” finished third with 76.2 pounds.
Overall derby winners who also finished first in their categories were Dean Kelly, lake trout, 23 pounds; Will Ballmann, coho salmon, 8.1 pounds; Jeremy LeClair, rainbow trout, 16.5 pounds; Ben Gates, king salmon, 21.5 pounds; and Dustin Groh, brown trout, 26.4 pounds.
Maribel Sportsmen’s Club celebrates 75 years with trap shoot, raffles and family activities
Maribel Sportsmen’s Club celebrated its 75th anniversary Aug. 1 with shooting events, youth activities, raffles and music.
The day began with a Lewis trap shoot. Dennis Kozlowski led 114 participants by shooting a perfect 50 straight targets.
Two back-to-back Annie Oakley shoots followed. Morgan Siebert won the first shoot, and Ross Kane won the second.
Children took turns shooting at the fish target set up by Rough Fish Assassins. Another popular display was Touch of the Wild, which featured fish and wildlife mounts, furs and other hands-on items.
In the raffle, first place — a Browning Citori CX 12-gauge shotgun — was won by Allen Bahr. Second place — a Benelli Lupo chambered in .300 Win. Mag. — was won by Brian Schulz. Third place — a $2,000 gift card to Red Maple Archery for a new bow or crossbow package — was won by Jenni Selner.
The day ended with music from the Dirty Martinis. Club organizers thanked everyone who helped with the anniversary celebration.
Manitowoc youth shooting program offers free trap and skeet rounds Aug. 11
The Northeast Wisconsin Youth Shooting Program Inc. will hold its next shoot from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, at Manitowoc Gun Club, 3112 Clover Road, just south of Manitowoc.
Those 18 and younger can receive up to two free boxes of shells to shoot free rounds of trap or skeet, or one round of each.
Participants attending their first shoot of the summer must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to sign a consent form.
Maribel Sportsmen’s Club hunter safety course starts Aug. 13
Maribel Sportsmen’s Club will offer its fall 2026 hunter safety course from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursdays, Aug. 13 and 20, and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22.
The course costs $10 per student and is open to youngsters and adults. Preregistration is required by calling Bob Schuh at 920-682-3106.
Disabled hunters should confirm 2026 Wisconsin gun deer hunt locations by Sept. 15
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is reminding eligible disabled hunters who want to participate in the 2026 gun deer hunt for hunters with disabilities to contact and confirm their hunting location with a hunt sponsor before Sept. 15.
Sponsors have enrolled nearly 70,000 acres across 47 counties for this year’s hunt, which will take place Oct. 3-11.
Hunters should contact sponsors directly because some properties can accommodate more hunters than others. Hunters are encouraged to reach out as early as possible to determine availability.
Eligible hunters may sign up for one sponsored property per year and must have a gun deer license. Hunters or assistants should provide their name, contact information and DNR customer ID number when signing up.
To be eligible, hunters must have a valid Class A, C or D disabled permit or a qualifying Class B permit.
New in 2026, the hunt will be statewide during the same weekend as the Youth Deer Hunt, Oct. 10-11. During those two days, eligible hunters may hunt statewide on public land or on private land where they have permission, without needing the property to be enrolled in the program.
The other seven days of the hunt, Oct. 3-9, must take place on property that is sponsored and enrolled in the program.
The DNR said it is committed to providing hunting, fishing and recreational permits and opportunities designed to help people with disabilities take part in Wisconsin’s natural resources. More information is available on the DNR’s Deer Hunting for Hunters with Disabilities webpage.
