FOND DU LAC – Fireworks discarded in or near garbage cans are believed to be the cause of a garage fire late Friday night.
A 911 call at around 11 p.m. July 4 reported flames in an attached garage at N6041 Stillwater Drive in town of Fond du Lac.
A news release from Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office said a deputy was first on scene and confirmed all occupants and pets had safely evacuated the home. The deputy also observed smoke and flames coming from the garage.
Fire crews from the Town of Fond du Lac Fire Department and First Responders, as well as mutual aid from the Lamartine Fire Department and City of Fond du Lac Fire Department, arrived on scene and quickly worked to contain and extinguish the fire.
As a result of the fast response, the fire was prevented from spreading beyond the garage and was limited to damage within the garage wall and ceiling, the sheriff’s office said.
Some items stored in the garage were lost, but the main living quarters of the home sustained only minor smoke exposure and no civilian or emergency personnel injuries were reported.
