This Mishicot athlete broke a state track & field record and won gold

LA CROSSE — There were several athletes from Manitowoc and Sheboygan counties taking part at the WIAA state track and field championships at Veteran’s Memorial Stadium on Friday-Saturday, June 5-6.

Division 3

Mishicot’s Juliana Doerner made state history on June 6, breaking the Division 3 girls state meet record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.04 seconds.

She added another individual state medal by placing fourth in the 100 (12.15).

Also earning a pair of individual state medals from the area was Kohler’s Maggie Behler, taking third in the 3,200 (10:49.51) and sixth in the 1,600 (5:05.98).

Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah’s Jenna Dirks and Manitowoc Lutheran’s Evan Manzano rounded out the area’s girls individual place winners. Dirks was sixth in the discus with a distance of 127-feet, 6 inches while Manzano was fifth in the triple jump (36-1).

Mishicot’s girls 800 relay of Kambrya Christoffel, Doerner, Tatum Fix and Kensington Rosenow was fourth (1:44.25).

The Kohler girls 3,200 relay earned silver (9:30.94), comprised of Lillian Pociask, Maria Cardenas, Ella Loest and Behler.

Kohler’s Carter Zimmeremann earned a silver medal in the boys high jump (6-5) to earn the highest finish for a boys athlete in Manitowoc or Sheboygan county.

Also earning individual medals in D3 among the boys were Howards Grove’s Odin Schulz, taking fourth in the 400 (49.08), and Manitowoc Lutheran’s Trenton Schuettpelz, who was fifth in the triple jump (44-0).

In the boys 3,200 relay, it was Kohler’s team of Jack Gasparick, Oscar Voice, Magnus Avery and Diego Cardenas that placed fifth (8:09.80) to earn a medal.

The other medal winning boys relay was the Howards Grove 1,600 team of Montgomery Fetterer, Max Loomis, John Athorp and Schulz, placing fourth (3:27.70).

Division 2

Sheboygan Falls junior Nora Halverson won a pair of state medals to lead the area’s athletes among the girls in Division 2.

She was third in the long jump (18-0.25) and fourth in the triple jump (37-4.5).

Also from the area, Kiel’s Maddison McDole tied for fifth in the high jump (5-4) while Two Rivers’ Malasia Lee was fourth in the 100 (12.29).

Plymouth’s boys 3,200 relay team of Kade Burdick, Hunter Nelson, Brennan Nickel and Gavin Hones earned a medal by taking sixth (8:07.44).

Division 1

Sheboygan South’s David Venegas was the lone area athlete in Division 1 to earn a medal, taking fifth in the boys 400 (48.55).
