STEVENS POINT − Voters in the Stevens Point Area Public School District took to the polls Tuesday to fill four seats on the Stevens Point School Board.
Seven candidates ran for four available seats on the board. The Stevens Point School Board consists of nine members, each serving three-year terms. An extra seat was up for election for a one-year term after an elected member resigned in August.

Kowalski, 69, from Plover, is a retired business professional, longtime community leader and volunteer with decades of civic and nonprofit leadership experience. Kowalski has been serving most recently as the current School Board vice-president amid his three years on the board.
Pope, 72, from Stevens Point, is a retired teacher and supervisor for University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point student teachers with bachelor’s degrees in biology/chemistry and education, as well as a master’s degree in education administration. Pope taught for 20 years as a chemistry teacher at Stevens Point Area Senior High and six years as an associate lecturer at UW-Stevens Point.
Potter-Nelson, 42, from Stevens Point, is an assistant professor of education foundations with a doctoral degree in educational sustainability from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Potter-Nelson also has a graduate certificate in education leadership from Aurora University, a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction-science education and a bachelor’s degree in physics from Iowa State University. Potter-Nelson has almost 20 years of experience in education as a former high school science teacher, administrator and professor and researcher.
Scott, 73, from Stevens Point, is retired and has trained in data acquisitions, accounting, sales and programming and has achieved a level 4 Wisconsin School Board Association professional development training certificate. Scott has served for 21 years on the School Board and served on all School Board committees.
