The National Weather Service has issued flood warnings for South Milwaukee and Franklin after heavy rains overnight.
The April 4 warning says Oak Creek, which runs through South Milwaukee into Lake Michigan, is the site of minor flooding, according to the service.
At 6 a.m., the river was at 8.3 feet, above the 8-foot flood stage. At 8 feet, walking paths along Oak Creek Parkway flood, the notice said.
In Franklin, minor flooding along the Root River has affected some yards and a low spot on Oakwood Road.
Elsewhere in southeastern Wisconsin, flooding from the Root River Canal has affected backyards of a few homes as well as Koerber Park, on 6 Mile Road in Raymond, in Racine County.
There also is widespread flooding of farm land in that community.
In Kenosha County, flooding along the Lower Fox River is up to first-floor levels of some homes in the Town of Wheatland and Village of Salem Lakes area along Riverside Drive and Shorewood Drive.
Motorists shouldn’t try to drive around barricades or through flooded areas. Most flooding deaths occur in vehicles, according to the National Weather Service.
The heavy rain is over for now, said Mark Gehring, a weather service meteorologist based in Sullivan.
Mitchell International Airport recorded 3.55 inches of rain from Wednesday night through Saturday morning – which Gehring called “a very impressive amount.”
There might be additional light rain through mid-week, he said, but “nothing serious.”
However, by April 10, a new front could bring more showers, Gehring said.
The Milwaukee forecast calls for a chance of more rain today and tonight, and areas of fog before 1 p.m. Otherwise, it will be cloudy, with a high near 53.
