A 9-year-old girl died after a tree fell on her during a thunderstorm June 23 in Green Bay, her mother confirmed to the Green Bay Press-Gazette.
At around 3:30 p.m., Jayme Denamur and her family were planning to go get milkshakes before the storm. Denamur said the high winds took out a neighbor’s tree, which fell and crushed her daughter, Rose Elizabeth Hendricks.
Denamur said that Rose was under the tree for about 8-10 minutes, and that multiple neighbors and firefighters came in to help her daughter, with one individual using a car jack to lift the tree.
During the thunderstorm, wind gusts hit 59 mph at 3:29 p.m., according to the National Weather Service Green Bay.
Rose was taken to a local hospital, suffering from brain trauma, multiple fractures, as well as her heart and lungs were crushed, Denamur said. She fought for around six hours before she died between 9 and 10 p.m., Denamur said.
Rose was described by her mother as a “very fun, exciting little girl” who was involved with dancing, softball, and was “a very artsy lady like her mom.” Denamur recalled the morning of the incident when her daughter was in her room, coloring and drawing.
“She didn’t deserve any of this. She was so young, she had her whole life ahead of her,” Denamur told the Press-Gazette. “Words can’t describe who she was. She was such an amazing little girl.”
A GoFundMe has been created to cover funeral expenses. The family is seeking $4,500 in donations.
Neighbors have already reached out to Denamur regarding her daughter. She said she appreciated their support during her daughter’s tragedy.
“She was such a sweet little thing, she couldn’t hurt anybody. She was always there for people,” Denamur said. “I just don’t want anybody to forget about my baby.”
