The collegiate wrestling world is still dealing with the aftershocks of top wrestling recruit Bo Bassett decomitting from the Iowa Hawkeyes wrestling program out of the blue. The move produced a seismic shift in the college wrestling landscape. He becomes the most sought recruit in the class of 2026.
Iowa, blindsided by the move, is reeling after losing Bassett, who had committed to the Hawkeyes and Tom Brands in February.
UFC legend and Hall of Fame Member Chael Sonnen dug into what may be behind Bassett’s decision.
“‘I decommit,’ Oh, you do? You do, huh? You have a better off than the Iowa Hawkeyes? Really? Because that would lead me to believe that we’re down to two others. It just leads me to believe, that possibly, the (Oklahoma State) Cowboys got to the table, and most definitely, (Penn) State College got to the table. That’s what it would lead me to believe,” Sonnen said.
“What a beautiful word that we have created. Decommit. What a beautiful word for lie. What a beautiful word for backstab. What a beautiful word for dishonest. What a beautiful word for waste everybody’s time. I’ve never fully understood it,” Sonnen continued.
