GREEN BAY − Josh Jacobs has rejoined the Green Bay Packers and participated in organized team activities June 2 after his release from Brown County Jail last week, coach Matt LaFleur said.
Jacobs was arrested May 26 on five possible charges involving domestic abuse, including felony strangulation or suffocation. He was released May 27 after Brown County District Attorney David Lasee said he had not decided whether to file charges.
A final charging decision will be made in the future.
In the meantime, Jacobs is around the team and participating on the field. LaFleur described Jacobs’ involvement as “business as usual.” Jacobs was a full participant in the on-field session June 2, including team drills.
“We’ve talked internally,” Packers quarterback Jordan Love said. “Everyone knows what the situation is there, and we’ve talked. Obviously, the details, everybody is keeping that under wraps right now out of respect for the situation and obviously all the legal stuff that’s going to be playing out. But it’s great to have Josh here with us, being able to work with us and get back to work. Kind of everybody is just waiting and letting it play out on its own.”
Love said there was no awkwardness when Jacobs rejoined the team. A 2025 captain, Jacobs has been among the Packers’ core leaders since signing as a free agent before the 2024 season. Jacobs had a big smile on his face during individual drills early in practice. When the Packers did special teams drills, the veteran was off on the side giving backup running back MarShawn Lloyd pointers.
“That’s a guy that, when I first came in, that was the first guy I talked to,” receiver Matthew Golden said. “Throughout training camp, he was always coming up to me just telling me he’s got confidence in me, he can see what I can do. Josh has always been a leader on the team, I feel like. The way he goes about practice, the way he carries himself, it explains himself.
“A real great guy, man. That’s a guy that we depend on.”
With a future decision pending on whether to charge Jacobs, uncertainty remains around his availability this season. Love acknowledged it’s something he’s wondered, but with Jacobs back with the team for now, his focus is on preparing for the fall.
“There’s always questions,” Love said. “I was shocked when I saw it. It’s one of those things we’re going to let it play out. There’s a lot of uncertainty when you hear something like that about what might happen, but we’ll see. We’ll let it play out and go from there.”
