A Kaukauna bike shop is holding a community ride in honor of Alex Pretti, who was an avid cyclist.
Pretti, of Minneapolis, was fatally shot by a Border Patrol agent Jan. 24 in Minneapolis. He was a 2006 graduate of Preble High School in Green Bay.
Recyclist Bicycle Co., 631 Saunders Road in Kaukauna, will start the 10-mile ride at noon on the trail along the Fox River.
Cycling shops around the country are holding their own versions of a remembrance ride on Jan. 31 for Pretti in solidarity after Angry Catfish Bicycle Shop in Minneapolis announced it would be doing one.
Pretti regularly joined Riverwest24, an annual day-long bike race and block party in Milwaukee’s Riverwest neighborhood. Residents and RW24 cyclers gathered for a vigil Jan. 25 in front of Falcon Bowl in the Milwaukee neighborhood.
“Cyclists, Alex was one of us. As we grieve, we come together in unity and ride to remember Alex for who he truly was: a kind, caring soul who showed up as a light for others,” Recyclist Bicycle Co. wrote in a Facebook post.
Cyclers should park on the street or in the doctor’s office parking lot next door. Helmets are required for the ride. If you don’t have a bike, call Recyclist’s shop at 920-759-1200 for a rental as soon as possible. Rentals are limited.
