Police shut down Highway 100 after gunshots strike vehicle

A portion of Highway 100 in Franklin was shut down in both directions during the morning rush hour Jan. 7 after gunfire struck a vehicle.

A 45-year-old Franklin man was driving his work vehicle north in the 7800 block of South Lovers Lane Road around 6:45 a.m. when gunfire struck his windshield, according to a news release from the Franklin Police Department.

Police said in the release the gunfire came from an unknown vehicle.

The man was not injured, police said.

An alert from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation indicated all northbound and southbound lanes were closed from Drexel to Rawson avenues from about 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. due to law enforcement activity.

Franklin Police Sgt. Mark Goers confirmed to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that the stretch of Highway 100 was shut down due to this incident for evidence collection.

No further information was released.
