PLOVER − An apartment fire the evening of May 4 has left a family of three without a home.
At 6:30 p.m. May 4, a caller reported a fire in the 1600 block of Okray Avenue in the village of Plover, according to a Plover Fire Department news release. When firefighters arrived, they quickly searched to confirm all residents were out of the multi-unit building.
The Plover Fire Department, assisted by the Metro Fire District, was able to put out the fire quickly and limit its spread, according to the news release. One apartment unit had significant damage, displacing a family of three. The Red Cross was contacted and is helping the family.
The remaining three apartment units experienced smoke damage. Two tenants decided to stay with family or friends and one tenant chose to stay in their apartment.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
No injuries were reported in the fire, according to the release.
The Stevens Point and Hull fire departments and Plover Police Department also assisted at the scene.
