GREEN BAY − As expected, Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs has found a new team.
According to multiple reports, Doubs will sign a free-agent contract with the New England Patriots. ESPN reported the deal is for four years and worth roughly $70 million. Doubs reportedly had interest from the Washington Commanders, Tennessee Titans and San Francisco 49ers this offseason.
The Packers drafted Doubs in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
While Doubs proved to be a consistent option for Jordan Love throughout his career, especially on third downs and in the red zone, the Packers always have said they don’t believe in having a No. 1 receiver.
During the 2024 season, Doubs was suspended for one game for conduct detrimental to the team after skipping two days of practice. It was reported that Doubs was unhappy with his role in the passing game, but he told reporters that wasn’t the case.
“I had to make sure that I got the family together again,” he said at the time. “I’d say there was some things going on off the field, so as far as just the organization and just the staff, players, there’s nothing going on within that area, so I just wanna make myself clear there.”
He returned to action but suffered two concussions late in the season, including the team’s wild-card playoff loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Doubs’ 2025 season was his best. As the Packers dealt with injuries throughout the receiver room, Doubs was Love’s reliable target, playing in all 17 games. He led the Packers in targets (85), receiving yards (career-high 724) and was one of three players to have six receiving touchdowns, joining Christian Watson and Tucker Kraft. He also had eight receptions for 124 yards and a touchdown in the wild-card playoff loss to the Chicago Bears.
Doubs’ career numbers include 202 receptions for 2,424 yards and 21 touchdowns.
Doubs gets the chance to be the top receiver on a team, as the Patriots released veteran Stefon Diggs this offseason.
The Patriots, led by up-and-coming quarterback Drake Maye, advanced to the Super Bowl this season.
The Packers are in good shape in the receiver room with Watson, Jayden Reed, Matthew Golden and Dontavyion Wicks, as well as tight end Kraft.
