Packers signing veteran long snapper following workout

In need of a long snapper with Matt Orzech out with a calf injury to start training camp, the Green Bay Packers signed veteran long snapper Cal Adomitis following a workout with the team on Thursday, according to reporting from Bill Huber of Packers on SI.

Adomitis (6-2, 238, 28 years old) was one of three long snappers in Green Bay among a 10-player workout group on Thursday. The Packers are also reportedly signing receiver Kaden Prather from the group, so at least two corresponding roster moves are coming on Friday.

Orzech, the Packers’ long snapper since 2023, started training camp on the PUP list with a calf injury. Although the Packers don’t believe Orzech has a long-term injury, not having a true long snapper has complicated the start of Packers training camp. More specifically, practicing the field goal operation has been close to impossible, even with Sean Rhyan operating as the emergency long snapper during the first two days.

Enter Adomitis, who has four seasons of long snapping experience at the NFL level. Problem solved.

An All-American and Patrick Mannelly Award winner at Pittsburgh in 2021, Adomitis won the job as the Cincinnati Bengals’ long snapper during his rookie season in 2022. He held the job for the next three seasons, appearing in 49 regular season games and three playoff games for the Bengals. Last season, Adomitis was the snapper for nine games while with the Philadelphia Eagles.

While at Pitt, Adomitis appeared in all 64 games for the school between the 2017 and 2021 seasons. He also participated at the Senior Bowl before the 2022 draft, where he went undrafted. Pitt considers him the most accomplished long snapper in school history.

Most recently with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Adomitis was released on June 11.

The question moving forward: Is Adomitis an answer to a short-term injury problem in Green Bay, or will he provide legitimate competition for Orzech ahead of the 2026 season?
