Oshkosh summer reading program has bingo, prizes and party

OSHKOSH – Oshkosh Public Library’s summer reading program runs through Aug. 7, offering activities and incentives for readers of all ages.

The theater-themed program encourages participants to keep their minds active and nurture a love of reading, according to a community announcement.

Readers can begin by picking up a Summer Reading Playbill at the library or downloading it from the library’s website. The Playbill includes instructions and a bingo-style activity card. Activities also can be tracked through the free ReaderZone app (program code: 18eea).

Prizes for participants

Each bingo earns a small prize and a raffle ticket. Participants can complete up to 12 bingos, and those who fill the entire card will receive an exclusive tote bag, while supplies last.

Prizes are tailored to different age groups, including a puppet theater set for children, a teen basket featuring a record player, popcorn maker and gift cards, and a downtown date night for adults with tickets to The Grand Oshkosh and dinner at Gardina’s Kitchen & Bar.

The program will conclude with a grand finale party Aug. 8 in the library’s reading room.

Programs encourage reading, skill-building

Summer reading supports literacy, especially for children and teens, by helping to prevent learning loss during the months away from school, according to the announcement. It also encourages readers to explore books and formats they enjoy, building confidence and lifelong reading habits through choice and curiosity.

“Summer reading is about more than just logging minutes or finishing a book,” Marie Boleman, head of youth services at the Oshkosh Public Library, said in the announcement. “When kids get to choose what they read, they’re more engaged, more excited and more likely to identify as readers. That feeling of choice and enjoyment is key to building strong literacy skills.”

The program celebrates storytelling in all its forms, from books and audiobooks to performances and creative expression.
