MANITOWOC – Creativity is making waves in local classrooms as the Manitowoc Public School District launches “Students at the Helm: The Ships Logo Project,” an initiative that puts student designers in charge of shaping the district’s future look and feel.
According to a community announcement, as the district unites its schools under one shared identity — the Ships — students are being invited to design original logo concepts inspired by Manitowoc’s lakeshore roots and forward-looking spirit.
Guided by the theme “Anchored in Tradition, United as Ships,” participants will work within real-world design standards, create primary and secondary branding elements, and see top concepts refined for possible official use.
Beyond school pride, the project offers hands-on experience in professional branding, collaboration and creative problem-solving — with portfolio-ready results, the announcement said.
This spring, students, staff and community members will also help select elements of the final design.
“This is more than a logo project — it’s about students helping define who we are,” said Lee Thennes, superintendent of the Manitowoc Public School District.
