New Mexican restaurant celebrating grand opening in Walker’s Point

After softly opening in February, a new Mexican restaurant in Walker’s Point will mark its grand opening on March 6.

Allende Cocina Mexicana, 160 S. First St., recently opened in the former space of Stack’d Burger Bar, which closed in April 2025 after 15 years in business.

The restaurant is owned by Cesar Lopez, whose family has long operated Walker’s Point restaurant Cielito Lindo, 733 S. Second St.

In January, Lopez told the Journal Sentinel his restaurant would have a streamlined menu of elevated takes on Mexican classics, focusing on fresh ingredients. It serves a variety of enchiladas with house-made mole, burritos, tacos and entrees including grilled chicken with mole pipian, fajitas and New York strip steak topped with salsa macha.

Weekly specials keep the menu fresh, including its Friday fish fry, which includes beer-battered tilapia and shrimp tacos or beer-battered cod served with creamy coleslaw and fries or Mexican rice.

It also has a full bar, serving drinks like margaritas, Jalisco-style cantaritos and the tamarita – a cocktail made with tequila, natural tamarind and chamoy.

On March 6, the restaurant will celebrate its grand opening with an all-day event featuring food and drink specials from opening until closing, including free chips and dip, $5 tequila shots, $8 margaritas and a free raffle. Reservations are not required.

Allende Cocina Mexicana is open from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.
