A Menasha man was sentenced July 8 to over two decades in prison for shooting a man during a fight on College Avenue in November 2023.
Ferris Robinson, 31, was charged Feb. 6, 2024, with attempted first-degree intentional homicide with a dangerous weapon as a repeater and possessing a firearm as a convicted felon as a repeater. A jury found him guilty May 1 of both charges after four days of trial.
Around 1:58 a.m. Nov. 25, 2023, Appleton police were dispatched to the 500 block of West College Avenue for a reported gunshot, according to a criminal complaint. On arrival, they found a large group of approximately 20 people fighting and later found a man with a gunshot wound to his arm.
Surveillance cameras captured photos and video of the person investigators believed to be the shooter based on witness statements. An Oshkosh police sergeant who had previously interviewed Robinson several times, Robinson’s former probation agent and a woman who was “romantically involved” with Robinson all identified the person in the surveillance video as Robinson, the complaint said.
Outagamie County Circuit Court Judge Mitchell Metropulos sentenced Robinson July 8 to 18 years in prison followed by 10 years on extended supervision for the attempted homicide charge and three years in prison followed by two years on extended supervision for the firearm possession charge, according to court records.
Metropulos ran the sentences consecutively, which means Robinson will serve a total of 21 years in prison and 12 years on extended supervision.
