On April 25, deputies went to the property in the town of Day after a report of multiple dead and emaciated dogs there, according to a Marathon County Sheriff’s Office news release. Deputies found eight dead dogs and 10 dogs that were extremely thin and weak.

All of the dogs were the same breed, according to the release. The surviving dogs, along with two of the dead dogs, were taken to the Marathon County Humane Society for evaluation.

Arrest made; felony animal mistreatment charges anticipated

Deputies arrested the man on suspicion of eight felony counts of mistreating animals causing death. He is expected to make an initial appearance May 8.

The Wausau Daily Herald is not naming the man because charges had not been filed as of the afternoon of May 7.
