MANITOWOC – A 23-year-old Manitowoc man was arrested on suspicion of second-degree recklessly endangering safety after police say he caused a two-vehicle crash on the 10th Street bridge June 14.
A probable cause statement from the police department said officers responded to the crash at the intersection of 10th Street and Maritime Drive at around 10:47 a.m. June 14.
Three victims were transported to the hospital for treatment, as was the man who was arrested. All suffered minor injuries.
The probable cause statement said preliminary investigation revealed the driver was traveling at a calculated speed of 59 mph in a 25 mph zone and did not stop for the red light at the intersection. The car was traveling at a calculated speed of 54 mph when the crash occurred.
The driver, according to the probable cause statement, said his vehicle had been having brake trouble and he knew he was speeding “a little bit” but his brakes didn’t work when he tried to stop at the intersection.
