Little Chute woman arrested after Appleton police officer was run over in parking lot

The Appleton Police Department has arrested a woman after she ran over a police officer with a vehicle in the early morning hours of Nov. 15, the department announced in a Facebook post.

At 2:41 a.m. Saturday, two Appleton police officers responded to a verbal disturbance in a parking lot near South Walnut Street and West Lawrence Street, police said. The officers attempted to contact the woman in the vehicle, but she accelerated from her parking spot toward a group of people in the lot. Police said she then accelerated toward the two officers.

One of the officers was struck to the ground by the vehicle, and the woman drove over his legs with the front and rear driver side tires, police said.

The woman fled the parking lot in her vehicle. Other Appleton police officers followed her in a short pursuit, before they were able to bring her vehicle to a stop, police said.

A 21-year-old Little Chute woman was been taken into custody and faces possible charges of first-degree recklessly endangering safety, eluding an officer, battery to law enforcement and operating while intoxicated causing injury, all felonies. She also faces a misdemeanor resisting arrest charge. The woman is being held at Outagamie County Jail.

The injured officer was transported to a local hospital and has since been released.
