First responders will conduct active shooter drills at Little Chute Elementary School, 901 Grand Ave., Little Chute, from July 7-11, according to a media release on social media from the Fox Valley Metro Police Department.
The public can expect a “significant” police, fire and EMS presence around the school during those days, the release said. During the training, the first responders will also use realistic scenarios, such as simulated weapons and emergency medical exercises. Fox Valley Metro Police Department emphasized that there is no danger to the public.
Representatives from nearly 20 police, fire and sheriff agencies are participating, including the sheriff’s departments from Outagamie, Calumet and Winnebago counties; Wisconsin State Patrol; and Fox Valley Metro, Grand Chute and Fox Crossing police departments.
The active shooter drills are being done in coordination with Texas State University’s Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training Center and funded by a federal grant, according to the release. They will train representatives from public agencies who will then train their colleagues. The training is meant to promote coordination between agencies during incidents and improve first responders’ medical, tactical, decision-making and communication skills, the release said.
