Hype for Jacob Misiorowski's eighth inning interrupted by live Matt Olson interview on Fox

The triple-digit fastballs that have made Milwaukee Brewers rookie Jacob Misiorowski one of the hottest topics in baseball after only five starts in the major leagues were on display in the eighth inning of the 2025 All-Star Game on July 15.

And though there was plenty of lightning in Misiorowski’s 18 pitches during the National League’s swing-off win over the American League, coverage of a live interview with NL first baseman Matt Olson during the scoreless inning stole some of Misiorowski’s thunder.

Misiorowski entered the game after teammate Trevor Megill got the final out of the seventh inning. Fox play-by-play announcer Joe Davis said, “This guy is one of the big stories in baseball over the last month or so. He debuted on June 12 and here he is at the All-Star Game.”

“Can you imagine what his heart rate is right now?” analyst John Smoltz asked in response. “It’s probably as much as his fastball is. He can sling it.”

“I was a little worried that his RPMs would be way up there but he seems to be under control,” Smoltz added.

Davis then mentioned the team’s recent winning streak before throwing it to field reporter Tom Verducci, who spoke about Misiorowski’s best All-Star Game recollection as a kid, which was in 2012.

“He went all the way back to 2012 and the Home Run Derby at Kaufmann Stadium, where he sat above the fountains in center field,” Verducci said. “Already in love with baseball, he fell even more in love with the game. If you listen to him this week, he still looks at Major League Baseball through 10-year-old eyes. And if you can do that, you’re an all-star every year.”

At that point in the inning, Misiorowski had retired Randy Arozerena on a deep flyout to center and had an 0-1 count on Alejandro Kirk. Fox’s producers decided to focus on a live interview with Olson, playing first base for the NL at the time, for most of the rest of the inning.

Olson seemed caught off-guard when asked about Misiorowski’s velocity.

“It’s coming out pretty good right now,” Olson said.

That would have been the perfect cue to talk about how hard Misiorowski was throwing.

But that didn’t happen. Davis and Smoltz talked with Olson for the rest of the inning.
