Former Wisconsin basketball star guard John Tonje appeared in his third NBA game of his rookie season on Monday, this against the Milwaukee Bucks.
Tonje played two minutes during the Boston Celtics’ 108-81 triumph. He did not register any statistics.
The former All-American wing has played 11 total minutes at the NBA level since signing a 10-day contract with the team last month. He has two points, two rebounds and one assist during that time while shooting 0-of-2 from the field. Despite that 10-day contract expiring last week, Tonje appears set to remain with the NBA club; he signed a two-way deal on Sunday.
Tonje carried momentum from his standout senior season with the Badgers into the G League, averaging 18 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 32 appearances for the Utah Jazz’s affiliate to start the year. He averaged 25 points and 5 1/2 rebounds across two appearances with the Maine Celtics after being traded to the franchise.
The Wisconsin great and the second-place Celtics are back in action on Wednesday night against the Charlotte Hornets.
